Industrial Blasting
Clean up even the biggest industrial blasting jobs with the Buster Blaster – soda blasting really comes into its own as an effective means of dealing with the grime, grease and dirt associated with many industrial operations. With industrial blasting, minimising equipment downtime is essential, so soda blasting is the ideal solution as there’s no pre-cleaning required. It also protects equipment integrity as soda blasting effectively de-coats and cleans the substrate; there is no risk of existing contaminants being driven into the substrate.
Other advantages in an industrial blasting situation include the minimal waste due to the water solubility of the soda. In most non-hazardous applications, the residue from blasting with Natrium 260 soda blast media can be rinsed into sanitary drains or sewers, which flush the residue to a water treatment facility, greatly reducing the clean up time.
Sodium bicarbonate is actually beneficial to waste water treatment systems. For industrial treatment systems, where chemical neutralization is a major cost in water treatment, baking soda blast media can often save significant dollars in waste treatment. Its non-hazardous nature also means minimal disruption to other business activities.
For industrial blasting of iron or steel, soda blasting provides natural rust inhibitive qualities – see our technical data for more information. Additionally, the Natrium 260 soda blast media used in soda blasting will not profile steel. When an operator removes a coating from a metal surface, he or she exposes the existing anchor pattern under the coating. Unless corrosion has occurred previously, there is no need to re-profile the surface.

Of course not all industrial blasting applications involve heavy machinery – in some environments the challenge is to effectively clean more delicate apparatus without damage. Again, sodablasting is ideal. With proper care, the softness and friable nature of the baking soda media produces a unique cutting action with little or no effect on most substrates. Soda blasting is a great option for food processing factories like fisheries, dairy factories, meat works, fruit packaging plants where bicarbonate soda’s unique natural odour reducing qualities provide additional benefits.
